36th SETAC Annual Meeting
A member of our team has participated in the 36th Annual Meeting of the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC) Europe, taking place in Maastricht from May 17–21, 2026.
On this occasion, Ivana presented a poster entitled: “Transcriptomic Benchmark Dose-Derived Human Equivalent Doses Following Subacute and Subchronic PFOA Exposure in Mouse Liver”, developed within the framework of the ToxIN project.
The presented results contribute to a better understanding of the effects of PFOA exposure and support the application of modern approaches in toxicological research.

A new paper has been published in Drug Development and Industrial Pharmacy
The methodology developed within the ToxIN project was used to for another study resulting in publication of the paper in the Journal Drug Development and Industrial Pharmacy

A new paper published in Human Reproduction Open
A paper applying the methodology developed within our ToxIN project has been published in the journal “Human Reproduction Open”!
In this study, we presented an approach for improving the risk assessment of exposure to perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS). We integrated in vitro data from human granulosa cells with physiologically based toxicokinetic (PBTK) modeling in order to more accurately connect experimental findings with real exposure levels in women undergoing in vitro fertilization procedures.

15th PBP World meeting, Prague 2026
Our team participated in the 15th World Meeting on Pharmaceutics, Biopharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Technology (PBP), held in Prague from March 23–26, 2026.
On this occasion, Dr. Mladena Lalić-Popović and Dr. Nemanja Todorović presented the results of our research on PFOA and the application of the GastroPlus™ software in physiologically based toxicokinetic (PBTK) modeling.
This was a valuable opportunity to exchange ideas with leading experts and establish new collaborations. We look forward to applying these new insights in the further development of the ToxIN project!

A new paper has been published in Journal of Hazardous Materials
We are very pleased to share that another important scientific paper from our team has just been published in the prestigious Journal of Hazardous Materials (impact factor ≈ 11.3, Q1).
Although PFOS is not a compound directly covered by our project, in this study we applied the methodology that we have been developing through the ToxIN project activities. For this reason, we would like to share this achievement as evidence that the developed approach can be successfully applied beyond the originally planned framework.

12th International Congress of the Turkish Society of Toxicology
ToxIN project principal investigator, prof. dr Nebojsa Andric, participated in the 12th International Congress of the Turkish Society of Toxicology, held in Istanbul, Turkey, 06-09 November, 2025. Theme the congress was ““Toxicology in Protecting Human and Environmental Health” . He presented the ToxIN project results regarding the effects of the long-term exposure to low PFOA concentrations on human hepatic cells.

BeCELS 2025: Belgrade Conference for Early-Career Life Scientists
Our youngest team member Katarina Borkovic has participated at the “BeCELS 2025: Belgrade Conference for Early-Career Life Scientists”, which took place on September 5 2025 at the Institute of Molecular Genetics and Genetic Engineering (IMGGE). At the conference Katarina presented our most recent ToxIN project findings

ToxIN project first scientific paper is published in the Journal of Hazardous Materials
Our first scientific paper derived from ToxIN project is now published in the prestigious Journal of Hazardous Materials (IF2 = 12.2).

In this paper, we demonstrated how integration of in vitro testing with PBTK modeling and analysis of sensitive populations can advance the assessment of risks from PFOA exposure. Our results indicate that long-term exposure to low PFOA concentrations can cause endothelial cell damage and that individual populations – including those with kidney, liver disease and obesity – are at higher risk compared to a healthy adult population.

Our team member Marija Opacic participated in the 35th Annual Meeting of the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC) Europe, which took place from 11 to 15 May in Vienna, Austria. The main theme of this year’s meeting – “Innovation for Tomorrow: Progress in Safe and Sustainable Concepts” – fully corresponded to the idea of the ToxIN project. At this occasion, some of our project results were presented to the wider scientific community,
